News and Announcements
Dear CORA Stingray Families,
After much discussion with our CORA Board, other swim team coordinators, and GRAL, it is with sadness that we announce Chestnut Oaks will not be fielding a swim team this season. The thing we love most about the CORA Stingrays is our sense of community; gathering together with teammates, friends, and families. Ultimately, the restrictions we must operate under this summer take away the fun we look forward to at practices and meets.
Below are just some of the restrictions we’d have to consider in order to have a swim team:
*No practices during pool hours
*Tiered and shortened practice times to reduce number of swimmers at the pool at one time
*No in-water instruction from coaches for our youngest swimmers due to distancing requirements
*Virtual meets only
*Limited spectators on deck
*Limited swimmers at clerk of course
*Limited lane usage
*Increased meet times to allow physical distance between swimmers at clerk of course
*Increased volunteers needed to run “meets”
*Increased demand on certified officials
*Additional supervision to ensure physical distancing between swimmers on deck
*Additional staffing needs to disinfect before and after practices
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, GRAL has made the following accommodations to support teams this season:
We maintain our standing with GRAL and remain in the same division for next year
*All seniors are able to return and swim next year
*Seniors are still eligible to apply for the GRAL scholarship
To our seniors, we can only imagine how devastating the end of this year has been for you. While it doesn’t replace the senior swim season you were looking forward to, we hope you will return next season so we can give you a proper CORA Stingrays send off.
We hope our swimmers will return to join us in the 2021 season where we can fully enjoy every aspect of the CORA Stingrays: fun, family, community, and friendly competition that nurtures our children’s personal and athletic growth.
Please stay tuned to hear from CORA’s Pool Board by the end of the week pertaining to updates and information about the pool opening in June.
Wishing you all health, wellness, and strength through this difficult time.
All the best,
Adrienne and Marsha
